Abstract Asia-Pacific economies have rebounded recently, engineered by very aggressive monetary and fiscal stimulus packages. That the financial sector was less exposed to the crisis, compared with other regions, aided recovery, while in some economies fiscal surpluses allowed governments to spend their way out of recession without jeopardizing fiscal balances--an option not available during the 1997-1998 Asian crisis. Following the Lehman collapse, China, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam experienced positive growth but others took a backward step during 2009. Although all economies are now performing better than expected, the extent of recovery varies across the region. For some, asset-price inflation is emerging as concern: there's too much money chasing too few assets. For others, general inflationary pressures are building up. Policy focus...
