Chirp modulation spread spectrum (CMSS) has received only moderate attention in the literature since its inception in 1954. Despite its robust interference suppression capabilities, CMSS has not been studied as exhaustively as its competing techniques direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) and frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). However, recently there has been growing interest in CMSS especially since its adoption to the physical layer of the popular IEEE 802.15.4 wireless networking standard in 2007. This book introduces a new approach to CMSS. A good selection of linear chirp parameters combined with antipodal signaling make CMSS systems attractive for multiple access (MA). This book describes two novel CMSS-MA systems with differing linear chirp configurations. Analytical expressions are derived and confirmed in simulation for the time-bandwidth efficiency and the bit error rate of both systems. Comparison with existing CMSS and DSSS systems indicates that the proposed systems outperform existing CMSS systems in terms of bit error rate and time-bandwidth efficiency. This book is well suited for communication engineering students and wireless communication engineers alike.
