This book deals with Ukraine's early-modern and modern popular and elite culture and the place of Cossacks in it. 'Cossack Motifs in Ukrainian Folk Legends' introduces the English-speaking audience to Ukrainian folk legends about the Cossacks, which were recorded and published during the 1800s. Its author pays specific attention to the collectors of folklore, their informants, the collecting situations, storylines and motifs, offering readers an insight into how the 19th century Ukrainians must have perceived Ukrainian Cossacks.
