For years organizations have deployed and used large on-line transaction processing (OLTP) systems to automate and record their business activity. End users cannot understand the OLTP schema, this is fairly difficult to understand. The challenge now is to allow business analysts, those individuals in the organization chartered to support decision makers by producing reports, to access this data in an ad hoc manner. To provide this the information systems and the operational systems should be separated. In the book, the data warehousing and the steps of the data warehouse process will be described.A data warehouse is simply a single, complete, and consistent store of data obtained from a variety of sources and made available to end users in a way they can understand and use in a business context. In this book, the single operational environment is used to create a data mart. The main topic of the implementation is to watch the customers behavior by using the customer credit card in retail industry. Database design and data transformation and migration is used in SQL Server 7.0 in this implementation. Then the OLAP cubes is created to follow the customer behavior.
