A Study In Postmenopausal Malay Women. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, June 2010, Pages: 88
Depletion of estrogen production and secretion in postmenopausal women may lead to rapid bone loss and decreased bone mineral density. This may also affect the resorption of mandibular bone. Several environmental factors influence bone loss, however genetic contribution particularly estrogen receptor gene (ERG) polymorphism had also been reported. This book provides some information regarding the association between estrogen receptor genotypes and alveolar bone loss in postmenopausal Malay women. ERG polymorphisms were detected in the study group and there was high frequency of heterozygous allelic variant. However none of the estrogen receptor genotypes has significant association with the alveolar bone loss. Therefore ERG polymorphisms may not be a genetic risk marker for the alveolar bone loss in postmenopausal Malay women.
