Salutogenic functioning amongst university administrative staff. Edition No. 1

VDM Publishing House, August 2010, Pages: 140

The present study provides an orientation towards stress management through the salutogenic functioning and six of its constructs, sense of coherence, hardiness, self efficacy, potency, learned resourcefulness and locus of control, were studied in the coping abilities of the 200 random sampled university administrators' staff. salutogenic functioning, coping and stress were defined and later integrated with the salutogenic personality profile. The results from the partly descriptive and partly explanatory research revealed that external locus of control and comprehensibility, autonomy and self control, internal locus of control and self control, internal locus of control and commitment and challenge, self efficacy and meaningfulness. Negative correlations existed between autonomy and self efficacy and comprehensibility, males and females differed in their self control and external control, black africans had the lowest score on external control, and there was no relationship between age and the constructs. Some conclusions and recommendations were made regarding the optimisation of salutogenic functioning among respondents.
