Wellness is an integrated method of functioning, which is oriented toward maximizing the potential of which the individual is capable, within the environment where he is functioning. It is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a higher level of well being. These choices are influenced by the individual's self-concept, culture and environment, The wellness process can be pursued to prevent illness, to assist in rehabilitation, to enhance the quality of life, to maximize one's potential (Kozier, Erb and Olivieri, 1992).
