Civilization and Barbarism. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, Feb 2010, Pages: 360
It is my goal that each student expand their academic experience to be a better prepared reader, being more aware of what they read and pay attention to literary, historical, environmental, political, and linguistic influences in a given text. In addition to developing a knowledge of the technique of critical reading, the student will acquire the tools to read topically, through an emphasis on a specific filter, in this case, the dichotomy of'civilization and barbarism.' This book presents nine Spanish-American authors from the 19th & 20th Centuries, whose works are the vehicle through which this goal will be accomplished. This book provides the compendium materials to the selected works, when in full-length book; whereas, essays are included in the materials of this volume. Where there is a particular literary genre, or a particular concept represented, the materials are provided.
