The Use of Role-Play in Speaking Activities in Secondary Classrooms. Edition No. 1

VDM Publishing House, September 2010, Pages: 68

This book aims at finding out if role-play is helpful as a speaking activity to encourage Malaysian secondary school students to speak in English. It includes teachers' perception on the use of role-play as a speaking activity and students' reaction to the use of role-play in Malaysian classrooms. The rationale for carrying out this study is to give useful information and understanding to the readers on the use of role-play activities in English language classrooms. An action research was carried out on seventy-nine form four students from two classes in Malaysia. The data was gathered through questionnaires given to teachers and students. The results should help shed some light to educators on the use of role-play in speaking activities, and should be especially useful for the school authorities and teachers in teaching English as a second language.
