Coronary artery disease is omnipresent in modern societies. Although a considerable amount of research effort is dedicated to prevention and treatment of this disease, it is still not completely understood. In vitro cell culture models can act as useful research tools to extract valuable insight into the disease. However, current cell culture models (i.e. parallel plate flow chambers) are often simplified and thus ignore the influence of the complex geometry of the arteries. This book, therefore, provides for new insight into the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis since a more physiological cell culture model is used. This book is of interest to medical professionals, medical scientists and all others who are interested in a more in-depth understanding of the initiation and development of such a widespread disease.
