Ethiopia's rural development policy places in centre stage the transformation of smallholder agriculture putting important role for agricultural services to support the transformation. However, the agricultural services are narrowly centered on technology transfer and the service delivery has historically been in the public domain. Recently, multiple service providers from the private and third sectors are emerging that challenge the traditional livestock service delivery system. This book reports the results of a study on dairy services in Debrezeit milkshed, Ethiopia based pluralistic service delivery system framework. The results reveal that while the livestock breeding service provision is dominated by the public sector, the role of private sector and cooperative societies in providing animal feed, product marketing and processing, micro finance, veterinary and input supply services is emerging. However, these multiple actors are not coordinated to function as a system. This book presents some options for development of a functional pluralistic service delivery system to support the commercialization of smallholder dairy sector.
