The research objectives were to examine the perceptions of Botswana colleges of education librarians on collection development; identify the strategies being used for collection development in the libraries and determine the effectiveness of the strategies; establish the availability, adequacy and effectiveness of collection development policies in the libraries; determine the adequacy and effective allocation of collection budgets in the libraries; establish the extent to which the libraries meet the collection standards as prescribed by the Board of Affiliated Institutions of the University of Botswana and international library associations; find out the suitability of the collections of the college libraries to the needs of the library community; determine the factors militating against collection development in the libraries and suggest possible solutions to the problems identified.
