The book illustrates how globalization transformed Israel's society, economy, and labor market, in recent years. It starts with a discussion of the general positive and negative outcomes of globalization from an international perspective. It than provides background data and information on Israel?s economy and society. Next it follows with a discussion of some specific issues affecting Israel as direct or indirect outcomes of globalization. Major positive outcomes of globalization and global trends include the rise of Israeli high technology industry, and the development of an information society. Several negative aspects of globalization consist of government?s neglect of its social responsibility in the areas of employment and welfare, the status of migrant workers and their treatment by employers and the government, and, adverse working conditions. Finally, the book offers suggestions/implications for policy makers to deal with the negative outcomes of globalization in Israel. Generally they emphasize that each sector in Israel is required to make its unique contribution, as well as a joint effort, so that all Israelis may enjoy the benefits of globalization.
