The Alignment of Organizational Knowledge and
Business Strategies. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, Sep 2008, Pages: 104
The alignment concept has traditionally been applied in the IT, HR, and Strategic Management fields. This book breaks that tradition by extending alignment into the knowledge management (KM) field. It focuses on knowledge resources alignment and the performance impact of aligning knowledge and business strategies. Casting knowledge as a key performance differentiator, the author examines the scope, essence, and importance of knowledge alignment. The author identifies and discusses strategies used in managing knowledge, differentiates between KM strategies and knowledge strategies, elaborates how organizations can craft their knowledge strategies based on the strategy diamond, and develops frameworks and models for alignment in KM. Using empirical data, an alignment model based on the strategic knowledge orientation of organizatons is validated followed by an analysis of the relationship and performance impact of aligning knowledge and business strategies. The book is timely and an asset to managers who want to understand and apply the alignment concept in their KM initiatives and to academicians and students engaged in research, teaching, and learning in the KM field.
