ERYTHROPOIETIN AND HAEMOGLOBIN INTERACTION IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, December 2010, Pages: 88
The patients of chronic renal failure suffer from anemia of normochromic normocytic type due to progressive deterioration of kidney function as well as with high level of (K+) potassium, phosphorus, blood urea and serum creatinine. The level of haemoglobin prior to treatment in these patients was 7.38 ± 0.40. Due to gross anemia the patients of CRF suffer from weakness and early fatigueability, so their normal routine work is disturbed. By two months treatment with injectable EP at the rate of 2000 unit, there is a significant rise (9.68 ± 0.45) in levels of Hb. The level of serum creatinine prior to treatment was 3.98 ± 0.30. But after treatment with injectable EP at the rate of 2000 unit the level raised to 4.6 ± 0.43. The level of BUN prior to treatment was 44.8 ± 2.96 and after treatment with injectable EP at the rate of 2000 unit, the level raised to 51.65 ± 3.28. High level of serum creatinine and blood urea are not directly related with EP but are due to dysfunctioning of kidney. However, by continuous treatment with EP, the levels of haemoglobin in patients of chronic renal failure can be achieved to normal level.
