Questions and concerns about burnout and job
satisfaction among social workers has been expressed
for decades. Evidence suggests that to varying
degrees, burnout and job dissatisfaction can have
serious, broad-reaching negative impacts
on a social worker's ability to effectively 'do the
job.' However, past research in this area typically
did not compare burnout and job satisfaction
differences between rural and urban social workers.
As such, much less is known about these concerns
among the rural sub-group. Using qualitative and
quantitative research methods and analysis, this
investigation assessed burnout and job satisfaction
in both groups. Correlates are compared between
groups, and profiles of each group are discussed.
