Ad hoc networks have a great importance in modern
scientific and technological usage. Ad hoc network
does not need a topology, infrastructure and special
management. Security limits its functionality
specially in unsecured environment. This work comes
to solve this problem by modifying one of the used
protocols in ad hoc networks, which is Ad Hoc
On-demand Distance Victor(AODV) routing protocol that
depends on finding route path just when need to. This
modification has done by using some reserved bits
from Route Request(RREQ) packet to add security
feature by selecting encryption algorithm to protect
payload data that is transferred between nodes of
communication by considering workload level at each
node when selecting route path. In addition, this
work presents a technique for distributing public key
to be used within RSA algorithm by adding a new part
to RREQ packet. The performance of the standard and
modified AODV protocol also studied in this work by
considering some parameters that affect ad hoc
network performance, which are mobility and number of
nodes while communication process.
