The presented book is a popular linguistics / psycholinguistics / learning and teaching methods publication dealing with vocabulary. Its target readers are language specialists and just people interested in language. It contains both some theoretic materials on word study and some drills and activities to develop linguistic thinking and lexical skills. It is written in a dialog manner (the authors rather try to make the readers come to conclusions themselves than give ready-made answers). The questions to the readers and the tasks for them are given in italics. The 1st-3rd, part of 5th (Mental lexicon, semantic fields and lexico-semantic groups) and 7th chapter have been written by N.Doghonadze, while the 4th, part of 5th (Word combinations: free, set; Functional styles and vocabulary; Neologisms and archaisms; Etymology), and 6th chapter – by ?. Çepik.
