Occupational stressors experienced by shift workers. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, July 2009, Pages: 112
Shift work has become a permanent and large feature of modern-day society. In 1991 it was found that approximately 26 percent of the South African population work shifts of some kind (Adler, 1991:3). Although shift work has become prevalent, there has been comparatively little research carried out with regard to this topic particularly in (Potgieter, 1996:1; Van Rooyen, 2000:1). Various literature sources indicate and highlight the vast impacts of shift work internationally, yet literature on the subject as seen in South Africa is limited (Van Rooyen, 2000:3). The book explores the existing knowledge base on shift work, exploring and describing the experiences of shift workers and provides guidelines for the promotion of health and well-being amongst shift workers that ultimately benefit the employer.
