The topic of energy security is of vital importance to many countries. Most of the European countries together with the US and other emerging nations like China and India are all concerned about their sources of energy supply. However the developing countries are also worried about their energy security as they would be the worst sufferers of any world energy shortages. As a result the purpose of this work is to highlight the energy security of a developing country like Bangladesh and whether it can afford to go for any gas export despite domestic shortages of energy. This work analyzes the energy scenario in Bangladesh and covers the country’s entire energy structure. This includes the domestic needs, gas pricing, the role of the state owned company, the role of IOC's, the production sharing contracts signed, the country's energy security concerns and whether it is in a position to export gas? This interdisciplinary work would be of interest to lawyers, economists, energy specialists and political scientists who are interested to have a general idea about the energy scenario in Bangladesh and its other South Asian neighbours.
