There is a perceived civilizational conflict between the Western world and the Islamic world that must be addressed in as many national and international venues as possible. A potential ongoing diplomatic and security relationship between the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is one possible venue to address the often competing cultural identity values and ideological worldviews represented by the 57 OIC and 28 NATO member states. The OIC-EU Joint Forum in 2002 gave the world a glimpse of the benefits of exploring a dialogue relationship between two large inter-governmental organizations that became legitimate and useful, if still imperfect, representations of their respective civilizations. The results from this book’s observation of charter similarities and differences, within the framework of an initial entry conflict analysis and Conflict Explorer mediator role, are to help both the OIC and NATO organizations effectively manage their cross-civilizational relations. Conflict professionals and anyone interested in exploring keys to developing lasting peace strategies will benefit from the results found in this book.
