Immigrants have always played an important role in the United States economy. The purpose of this book was to examine the adaptation of Arab immigrants and refugees who left their countries due to the invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990 and resettled in the Tri-county of Greater Metropolitan Detroit (Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland) between 1990 and 2000. The present research applied appropriate approaches, principles, and findings of previous research to clarify the degree to which Arab immigrants and refugees have adjusted to the new environment in the aftermath of the Gulf War. This research examined major factors that impacted immigrants and refugees? adaptation to the Detroit labor market conditions, their satisfaction with their lives in the United States, and their integration into mainstream society. Economic adaptation is considered one aspect - albeit an important one - of their integration in the larger society.
