Man’s Search for Meaning at Work. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, Jan 2009, Pages: 188
In Man’s search for meaning, Viktor Frankl suggests the will to find meaning in our lives as the main motivation for our behavior. People increasingly turn their spiritual quest for meaning also to the workplace, seeking answers to the questions of the human soul at work. Although research confirmed the importance of a sense of meaning in life in mental health and well-being, little is understood about the role of meaning in life at work. This book explores the application of Frankl’s suggestion at work and examines the manifestations and correlations of meaning in life in the workplace. The analysis demonstrates how meaning in life is related to positive work orientations, satisfying careers, commitment and motivation at work. It confirms that positive work attitudes, careers, commitment and motivation can also be expressions of a sense of meaning in one’s life, a more spiritual source for these work behaviors than covered in previous motivation theories. Providing a practical insight into workplace spirituality, this book should be of interest to academics, researchers, OD professionals, business leaders, or anyone with the desire to make life and work meaningful.
