Interaction of Ocean waves and Offshore Structures. Edition No. 1

VDM Publishing House, January 2009, Pages: 256

INTERACTION OF OCEAN WAVES AND OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
is that frequent phenomenon when artificial
breakwaters are built for protecting coastal zone or
natural bottom is formed by energetic sea state.
With spectral and statistical agreement of realistic
sea state, Mao-Lin Shen provide a numerical
environment to identify phenomena which are
difficult to be observed in field data or
experimental outcome. Rigorous fluid mechanics were
applied so that fluid visualization is possible and
showed by flow field. Differ from traditional work,
which can only visually recognizes vortices, Mao-Lin
Shen establishes a process to auto-recognize vortex
region, and thus vortex strength and location of
vortex center have been identified scrupulously. By
analyzing the vortices around submerged breakwater
and above ripple bed, momentum transfer and
nutrition distribution can be further quantified.

Mao-Lin, Shen.
Mao-Lin Earnest Shen, PhD, received his engineering training at
NCKU and specializes in waves, statistics, analysis and
programming, and finds analyzing of natural phenomena to be the
most challenging and satisfying. He has served as a chief editor
of the NCKU News and as a vice-leader of ABC section of the
Social Service Team in NCKU.
