This study aims to explore implementations of
privatization in Turkey in the context of neo-liberal
restructuring of the world economy. To provide inside
viewpoints, interviews were conducted with
respondents who were working for electricity related
public organizations. Additionally, a discussion of
development theories, neo-liberalism and
dependency/world system theories were included to
evaluate their propositions if applicable for Turkey.

The evaluation of the last quarter decade of Turkish
experience with structural adjustment policies and
privatization shows that the IMF-implemented economic
policies of neo-liberalism were not successful.

This study concludes with support for the
dependency/world system theories. Neo-liberal
theories (including modernization theories) however,
are not supported.
