Accurate spatial and temporal information of floods
are highly important for economic loss estimation and
to undertake various measures for flood disaster
mitigation. A distributed hydrologic model is an
effective tool to generate such information at high
spatio-temporal resolutions. Flood loss estimation is
required to facilitate the assessment of benefits of
flood protection. An integrated model for flood
simulation and loss estimation can play an important
role in flood risk analysis. Very little academic
literature exists on flood loss modeling. This book
presents the development and application of an
integrated and distributed model for inundation
simulation and damage estimation for real-world
application at river basin scale. The model can be of
help to decisions-makers many ways in weighing
various options for river basin planning and flood
management. It can help insurance companies in
devising adequate insurance policies for river basins
that are under potential threats from major floods.
The model can be viewed as a very useful tool in
decision making process for undertaking various
measures for flood disaster management.
