Livelihoods and HIV/AIDS. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, April 2009, Pages: 104
This study looks at the impact of HIV/AIDS on rural households in Zimbabwe. A case study of Nhamoinesu village situated in Zaka,Masvingo province in Zimbabwe is adopted for the study. The study seeks to explore and examine how rural agricultural households are impacted and respond to the challenges brought about by HIV/AIDS.Attention is given to institutional frameworks for HIV/AIDS interventions at district and village level. A second objective of the study is whether interventions are appropriately aligned and responsive to household livelihoods' strategies.Findings of the research show that the current practice of targeting people within defined risk groups by age and prioritizing interests of the most common economically active people between aged 15 and 49 years overlooks the fact that the elderly , the very young and women are among the worst affected within communities. The study also shows that most HIV infected and affected respondents in Nhamoinesu are struggling to survive and some dissolving completely.
