Turkey’s exports increased dramatically
in the years between 1996 and 2006. In 1996, the
total value of exports was 23 billion dollars,
whereas in 2006 it reached 85 billion dollars. This
book investigates the causes of Turkish export-boom
after 2000 by concentrating on cost and productivity
aspects of the production in the manufacturing
sector. Moreover, the importance of these factors is
examined for the rising and declining sectors. In
addition, poor export performance of Turkey for the
pre-2000 period is analyzed with respect to Slovak
Republic in terms of cost competitiveness in
manufacturing sector. Dynamic panel data technique is
employed for these analyses. By considering the case
of Turkey the book shed light on the basic
determinants of export performance in developing
countries.
