In spite of increased interest in game-based learning, relatively little is known about the learning process in games. One of the biggest problems of educational games has been the inadequate integration of educational and game design principles. As a solution, this work presents an experiential gaming model that supports educational game design. The aim of the model is to describe the learning process in games, integrate pedagogical aspects into gameplay, and describe the building blocks of flow experience as well as good game design practices. In general, the work aims to point out that educational games cannot be only supplementary amusement, but pedagogically well designed tools.
