Higher education institutions in South Africa are under severe pressure to design effective multicultural teaching and learning strategies and curricula. This calls for the development of programs that would actively address diversity in South Africa. A thorough understanding of the nature and needs of students in a multicultural classroom, considering the influences of urbanisation or modernism as well as the current and historical socio-political context, would facilitate the process. By applying informed and shared knowledge in innovative ways, the challenges of multicultural teaching and learning could be met. This book explores the use of African proverbs and metaphors in a visual communication design environment with a view to improving multicultural teaching and learning.
