The book describes safe and optimum blasting patterns for ringhole and induced blasting in blasting gallery method of underground coal mines. It has been divided into two parts, viz. ringhole blasting in coal and induced blasting in stone roof. Several mathematical models developed on the basis of extensive field investigations, are described for determining blast design parameters. Model test blasts in concrete blocks of known strengths are also given to ascertain the effect of decoupled charges on fragmentation. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is also introduced to train different blast design parameters and other important factors. Monitoring of ground vibration, blast-fumes, strata load and roof convergence are also considered for safety of underground workings. A new induced blasting pattern namely ‘Staggered Ring Breakage Method’ (or ‘SRBM’ pattern) is prescribed for effective induced caving of overhanging roof.
