The following dissertation is an investigation into how core competences be leveraged to influence competitive advantage in Europe; using TFIS UK’s position within the Tunnel Safety Market. This dissertation contains both primary and secondary data. Secondary sources were used to review the current academic literature and to add depth and context the Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions (TFIS) UK case study. Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions provide total integrated solutions for sites, buildings and public areas; bringing together a broad spectrum of technologies, to deliver high quality, customer driven solutions. The primary research was collected by conducting four semi-structured interviews with the managers of TFIS UK to ascertain TFIS UK’s current core competencies, capabilities and strategic intent. This data was then compared with the TFIS UK case study and academic literature to draw conclusions and recommendations for future strategic developments.
