Allergic disorders are still common and are responsible for substantial morbidity, health care utilisation and cost to the health systems. Recorded incidence and lifetime prevalence of allergy showed a great variation over the years studied. The better interpretation of this research work was influnced by the great bias in the dataset caused by changes in diagnosis system, transfer of recording system for GP practices and the introduction of new GP practices at the same time. Otherwise this study was consistent with previous research in which an increase in the incidence and prevalence of allergic disorder in the 1980s and mid-1990s was found to have occurred, but there may be evidence of stabilisation in the 2000s. However, it should be noted that this does not imply that the trend may not be increasing for specific allergic conditions. Further research is required on annual incidence and prevalence for specific allergic conditions in order to improve the current stage of knowledge of the trends of these allergies
