This thesis reviews the important characteristics of
multimedia elements and combinations as a learning
material conveyance tool. An exploratory observation
is conducted to ascertain how multimedia and its
elements are used to deliver a selected group of
learning materials. A triangulated study is then
conducted to investigate the effectiveness of
multimedia combinations in promoting learning. To
numerically represent the comparison of multimedia
elements and combination effectiveness, a multiple
group post test only experiment is conducted. An
interpretive study approach is used to gather
insights on the issue that could not be represented
by numerical data. This approach uses open-ended
questionnaires distributed to a selection of
identified field experts. Finally, a thematic content
analysis of computer aided learning evaluation rubric
documents is conducted to unobtrusively measure the
pertinent indicators of effectiveness. The findings
of this research provide further insights on
multimedia usage and effectiveness in computer-aided
learning, and should be useful to practitioners and
researchers in Multimedia Learning fields.
