The use of web based learning in primary schools, especially in South Africa, has been neglected to a large degree. There are various reasons for this including lack of resources and qualified personnel. The aim of this book was the design of a hybrid web based learning model for primary school mathematics especially in the teaching and learning of perimeter and area. Mathematics was chosen as a focus area because of the poor results attained by learners and university students in this subject. The introduction of networked computer laboratories to previously disadvantaged South African primary schools enables the use of computers as powerful tools to analyze the thought processes of learners during their early encounters with mathematics. This book shows that a blended learning approach using a networked computing environment to facilitate the teaching and learning of perimeter and area produces a significantly enhanced learning experience for learners as compared to learners utilizing conventional teaching and learning methods only. The findings and methods illustrated in this book would be of use to educators as well as teacher training institutions.
