Applications of GIS in Transit Network Development. Edition No. 1

VDM Publishing House, July 2010, Pages: 64

Providing an equally sufficient and efficient transit service requires careful planning. Author of this book aimed to explore the travel characteristics of the city dwellers and develop a suitable and efficient transit network. To obtain primary data, both household survey and ridership survey were conducted. Characteristics of existing road network and forecasted travel demand for 20 years were used to develop the proposed transit network. Forecasted travel demands were distributed to road node and road intersection of the digital road coverage to perform "P-Median Problem with Maximum Distance Constraints Model" in ArcInfo Workstation 9.0. This research presents transit network development procedure within the framework of GIS. ArcGIS and Arc/Info Workstation provide a variety of tools and techniques for network analysis along with line or linear data like transportation network, utility network etc. Focusing on bus transit network development, this study presents the procedures for developing a demand oriented suitable bus transit network. The author here tries to explain the procedures of developing transit network using some previous works.
