There are many factors that motivate adult learners. They include social relationships, external expectations to improve ones ability to serve mankind, to advance career wise, to escape boredom or learning for its own sake. Though motivation as been researched extensively in recent past especially in the developed countries, yet the question 'what motivates adults to learn' continues to be asked by educators, policymakers and employers. Hence, the need to have a second look at the field of motivation and action within the realm of adult education and learning and especially in a developing country. The author seeks to find out whether the recent trend of adults seeking to learn en-mass is merely a response to the global trend in lifelong learning or there are other factors.
