Conservation Status and Economic Potential of Parajubaea Sunkha. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, Nov 2008, Pages: 16
Parajubaea sunkha Moraes, one of three species of an endemic Andean palm genus, is known exclusively from 1700 to 2500 m above sea level within the province of Vallegrande, department of Santa Cruz in Bolivia. Early data suggested that P. sunkha, a locally important economic species, could be the most threatened of all Bolivian plants. However, more detailed studies for an adequate assessment were lacking. Now, in the present paper, for the first time, the species' conservation status and threats are assessed quantitatively. Additionally, the palm's socio-economic potential for improving the livelihoods of the rural poor is assessed.
