We live today in the Information age, the advent of the Internet and mass computer use brings a lot of new issues and challenges for the law enforcement through an additional source of evidence – “digital evidence” or also called “electronic evidence”. Thus establishing that a crime has occurred , how it has occurred, identifying perpetrators, providing links between suspects, establishing criminal associations etc. All of which can be gleamed from the various “cyber-trails” left behind from use of today's technology, i.e. e-mail, SMS, chat room logs, web-pages visited , Internet , activity, down and uploaded files, network traffic and logs, user access, digitized images, the wealth of digitally stored data files. This is a whole new science known as “computer forensics”.
