African literature, especially works by African female writers, has been inappropriately interpreted by Western feminist critics. The latter's interpretation alienates African female writers from their target audience but sadly, it silences the unique contribution that these writers make to contemporary global power and empowerment discourse. This book attempts to correct this anomaly by applying the African gender perspective to selected works by four African female writers: Buchi Emecheta , Mariama Bâ, Amma Darko and Ama Ata Aidoo. This book is recommended for undergraduate students and graduate students and researchers in gender studies.
