Chapter one gives an overview about what I consider generally important in translating, some translation models and their differences, finally leading to the core question: What is important in translating technical texts? What are the differences to other kinds of texts? Chapter two is entirely about technical texts and, by analyzing different examples of technical manuals, I deal with the issue of simplification or superficiality in translation from source language (SL) to target language (TL). Referring to two insufficiently developed models which mean to show the percentage of terminology vs. that of common language, I created my own and applied it to the examined texts. Having worked at Infineon Technologies for over 10 years now, I decided to include some material 'from the source'. In chapter three I deal with the translation of websites for Villach and Regensburg which I did in 2007. In that discourse, the term localization is explained as well. Chapter four is all about the translation of signs in technical manuals. Therefore I chose one manual printed in the U.S. and its translation into the German language.
