Drought, Famine and Media. Edition No. 1
VDM Publishing House, Nov 2010, Pages: 116
Drought represents an ordinary and recurring global phenomenon. Yet, its effects vary with degree of susceptibility. In the Horn of Africa, drought generally relates to desertification and famine. Drought and famine have remained as recurrent catastrophes in this area. No one any more questions the importance of media (both international and local) in addressing and preventing these problems. Still a limited number of academic literate addresses the way the media, particularly local media, cover these issues. This book, therefore, is intended to provide new insights on how local media cover and frame such problems through their selection of themes and sources among other issues. This book should be useful to educators, researcher, students and anyone else interested in the areas of communication, media studies and social problems.
