Due to tough global business environment, strategic negotiation skills are necessary for increasing profits and negotiating successfully in an international context. Negotiating relationships become increasingly important as individuals and companies do business globally. Cultural differences have a broad effect on business, thus also on business negotiations. Cultural differences between Romania and Austria exist regarding communication, goal-orientation, time and decision making process. These factors have influence on negotiations as Romanians behave in another way as Austrians do. Negotiators must be aware that cultural differences increase the time required to reach an agreement and they can lead to suboptimal agreements or even to a complete breakdown of negotiations.
