The thesis examines portraying everyday life of Yugoslav society in the 1980s. The examination is based on film In the Jaws of Life by Rajko Grlic from 1984. Therefore, it approaches the issues such as connection between history and film and the ways in which film can portray everyday life. It also reveals the political institutional history in Yugoslavia in the decade of the 1970s and particularly 1980s – known as dying decade of the state whereas a depressive atmosphere of the time could be noted. Apart from those issues occurred in the society as reflected in the film itself, the other issues are literary criticism and gender concerns. However, hidden inside love stories, film depicts many contemporary aspects in order to 'play' with the reality.
