NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) Dec. 15, 2006-Consolidation is in the air for the airlines, and most other North American transportation sectors are continuing to benefit from steady demand, according to a Standard & Poor's Ratings Services report published today. The Industry Report Card, 'U.S. Airlines Abuzz With Consolidation, Other North American Transportation Sectors See Steady Demand,' includes comments on 69 rated issuers in the airfreight, airline, bus, railroad, shipping, transportation equipment leasing, trucking, and related industries. US Airways Group Inc.'s (B/Watch Dev/--) recent hostile acquisition bid for bankrupt Delta Air Lines Inc. (rated 'D') raised questions not only about the future of those two companies, but also about further potential consolidation of the U.S. airline industry, and subsequent reports...
