Abstract
Our rating outlook for North American forest products companies is mixed. Prospects for paper and paperboard manufacturers are generally stable, while the outlook for pure wood products companies is slightly more negative. Over the next 12 months, we expect most of the paper and paperboard producers we rate to maintain relatively steady operating performance, reflecting consistent demand and pricing for most products. We believe earnings for wood products manufacturers over the next 12 months are unlikely to meaningfully improve from current cyclically weak levels, given our expectation for only modest improvement in residential construction activity.
