Abstract
NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) March 24, 2004--Global convertible bond issuance is expected to deliver a strong showing this year, though gains will be much lower than a blockbuster 2003, which recorded the second-highest annual volume in history, according to a report released today by Standard & Poor's Ratings Services. Interest rates remain low and spreads reasonably tight, extending the opportunity for issuers to capitalize on attractive financing conditions in the convertible debt market, as well as in the overall bond market. No interest-rate hike is forecast in the remainder of 2004 either in the U.S. or in the eurozone, but expectations that interest rates have reached an inflexion point could prompt a rise in new issues.
