Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) March 25, 2003--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today it assigned its 'A' rating to the District of Columbia's $37 million revenue bonds, series 2003, issued for American University (AU). The outlook is stable. Standard & Poor's also said it affirmed its 'A' issuer credit rating (ICR) on AU. The rating reflects stable demand characteristics, evidenced by increasing enrollment and freshman applications, improving student quality, and a solid academic niche in programs with a global focus; a long history of balanced financial operations, with conservative budgetary practices and a consistent dedication to funding various financial reserves; strong growth in endowment, with little reliance on endowment earnings; a well-maintained campus, located in the residential environment of...
