The Alopecia Therapeutics Market is forecast to Show High Growth until 2017

It is forecast to grow at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 4.8% for the next seven years to reach $2,804.4m by 2017. The market grew at a CAGR of 8.4% during the historic period (2005-2010). The Alopecia Therapeutics Market Has High Unmet Needs to be Addressed
GlobalData analyzed the current competition in the alopecia therapeutics market and found it to be weak. Currently, Propecia and Minoxidil are the only prescribed drugs for the treatment of alopecia. These drugs target reduction of hair loss. However, due to severe adverse effects like erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, increase in heart rate and blood pressure usage of these drugs is declining and the unmet need in the market remains high. Avodart is in Phase III trials in the US and after approval it will be able to capture market share of Propecia as it is more efficacious with diverse mechanism of action. There is a huge set of patients waiting for newer therapies to treat alopecia, as well as the development of safe and efficacious drugs for the treatment of alopecia.
