Mobile Communications Revenue View
By end-of-year 2011, the total North American mobile services revenues are expected to total $xxx.xx billion. At that time, mobile data services revenues are forecast to account for approximately 33 percent of that total or $xx.xx billion. By 2016, mobile services revenues are projected to increase to $xxx.xx billion, with the mobile data portion equaling $xx.x billion (xx percent).
Mobile data plans are expected to continue to generate the largest portion of mobile data services revenues throughout the forecast period. The majority of messaging takes place as part of a data plan, and this dynamic is expected to continue unabated throughout the forecast period.
In addition, wireless carriers have begunto bundle select mobile content and applications solutions into their data plans in response to price pressures from the newly competitive smartphone application storefronts whichoffer an ever-increasing number of free or one-time-fee apps for download. Reflecting the increasing tendency to bundle into data plans, stand-alone mobile content and applications services are projected to contribute only x.x percent of total mobile data services during the 2010-2016 period.
